ALESSIO CANNIZZO — CHOREOGRAPHIC AND SCULPTURAL PRACTICE, BERLIN.
My practice is a choreographic and sculptural methodology based on the idea that bodies, spaces, materials and sounds continuously shape one another. I treat the studio as a space of reciprocal transformation, where movement, matter and sound respond to each other in real time. The practice is a dialogue with any material able to carry resistance, vibration and memory. The audience is welcome to activate the works and take part actively. Accumulation of memories and traces are part of the transformation of the work in the space, and of the space itself.
I begin by approaching the material with simple physical actions: lifting, striking, dragging, leaning, pressing weight. These gestures deform the object, but they also affect my posture, rhythm and balance. As the material bends or shifts, it changes my pathways and decisions, creating an evolving environment.
This practice proposes a technique based on reciprocity rather than codified steps — a hybrid, primal-technological language where creation is circular and open to mutation. Politically, it reflects on labour, resistance and how bodies negotiate pressure in material and social structures.
